Today's strip is a reminder that Elly doesn't like to make decisions but doesn't want John to make them for her.
(Strip Number 367, Original Publication Date, 12 February 1983)
Panel 1: We start things off with Elly asking Anne what she should do about the column she writes for the Valley Voice.
Panel 2: A Marge who never appeared in the strip and was only referenced this one time told Elly to ask for a salary while Connie said she should quit and let them miss her for a while.
Panel 3: Anne sets up the punchline by asking Elly why she doesn't ask John what he thinks.
Panel 4: Elly tells her "Are you kidding? I make my own decisions!!" Anne's response is to roll her eyes.
Summary: This is probably her way of saying that she knows what John's decision would be: "Give up all this work nonsense and be like Mommy." Also, Connie's advice is as stupid as she is; that's because they wouldn't miss Elly in the least.
