In today's strip, John remembers that he married a childish jerk who thinks it's funny and cute to hold grudges for fifty or sixty years.

(Strip Number 4268, Original Publication Date, 3 January 1983)

Panel 1: Now that John's hangover has subsided, he proceeds to try to cure the other nagging pain in his life: Elly's hostile refusal to understand that things that annoy her aren't part of a plot involving everyone in the world to annoy her. He does so by telling the sulking jerk to come on and let bygones be bygones.

Panel 2: He then reminds her that everyone (except her) had a good time at the party before asking her who was going to remember what he did.

Panel 3: She continues to stare her Gorey-eyed stare so as to tell him that she will.

Panel 4: Having suddenly remembered that he's married to a petulant arsebucket who boasts, BOASTS, about maintaining grudges for decades after the people she's angry at have forgotten why, he thought-bubbles "Dumb question."

Summary: The Lynnsight is going to be some sort of whining gibberish about her wanting the party to have gone well or some such nonsense only to be defeated and shamed by her lying husband and his refusal to admit that he, as a university student, must have spent most of his time getting wrecked. In the strip, Elly is still angry at John because someone unknown kissed him and thus proved her right to not trust him. In both cases, we have to deal with an idiotic prima-donna who thinks that not letting go is a sign of strength.
