(Strip Number 358, Original Publication Date, 27 December 1982)
Panel 1: We start things off with Elly, who's holding a piece of paper, telling a gob-smacked John that it looks as if they're going to have twelve people over for New Years' Eve.
Panel 2: He repeats the phrase 'twelve people' before reminding her that he thought that they were going to have an intimate little party.
Panel 3: She makes that stupid splayed-out fingers pleading gesture that I've only ever seen Jim Kirk do when the Klingon bastards killed his son while asking him what his idea of an intimate party is.
Panel 4: His telling her 'Two' confuses her.
Summary: Since he's not very comfortable in crowds and can't really hold his liquor that well, it seems to me that putting him into a situation wherein he'd need to get gooned to not die of self-consciousness is sort of tempting fate here. Since Elly wouldn't listen to him, what's coming is partway her fault too.
