(Strip Number 4258, Original Publication Date, 6 December 1982)
Panel 1: We find ourselves back at the ladies' wear department down at Philpotts'; as Mike is about to put the scarf back, Lawrence asks if he's really going to do so,
Panel 2: Since he looks so patently guilty, I really don't think that he's thought through his whole "If no one sees me put it back, they'll never know I took it" plan through. A "I did something bad" expression like his is going to attract every Captain Peacock wannabe in the Northern Hemisphere.
Panel 3: Since Lawrence is equally suspicious-looking and since he's too stupid to know what Steven Page will eventually sing about in "Alternative Girlfriend" (I have a job in a shop/I'm an undercover cop/I make sure the customers aren't thieves), his thinking that the coast is clear is not a thought I trust.
Panel 4: My suspicions are confirmed by an off-camera voice that would like a little chat with Mike.
Summary: In the real world, Mike would be facing down the barrel of spending Christmas in juvie with Lawrence sitting there next to him bleating that he doesn't understand what he's doing there; in Lynn's world, he's about to get rewarded for his after-the-fact honesty.
ETA: In the latest banner, Elly is horrified by the snowmother Mike and Liz built; given that the snow Flapandhonk is less frigid, I can see why; my guess is that she's thought-bubbling that she's been replaced again.
