Panel 1: After having spent what seems like five or six hours raking a million leaves, Mike asks Elly, who's making cookies, howcome he gotta do chores an’Lizzie doesn’t.
Panel 2: As she puts the cookie sheet into the over, Elly tells Michael that Lizzie does help out and, in fact, is helping right now; this help takes the form of her sitting on a counter looking lobotomized.
Panel 3: Having noticed this, Michael asks how she is helping when she‘s not doin’anything but sittin‘there.
Panel 4: Elly's bug-eyed, manic grin when she says "Exactly" reminds us that she does not like it when children get under foot.
Summary: While I do sympathize with Elly in theory about how hard it is to try to raise children and keep house, in practice, I notice that she doesn't actually try to do either especially well.
