(Strip Number 322, Original Publication Date, 19 October 1982)
Panel 1: As he looks at his plate in confused disgust, John whines that they've got gourmet cooking in the oven but they're having leftover macaroni.
Panel 2: Elly tells him that she's going this for Anne; with a brand-new baby, she's too tired to cook.
Panel 3: Rather than give her stuff for the baby, Elly says that she's going to give her the one thing a new mother never has.
Panel 4: That precious gift is that of time.
Summary: John makes a virtue of not assimilating any facts that contradict any opinion he might have had when he was seven years old so Elly might as well have been speaking to him in Sindarin. Even watching Elizabeth be tired and overwhelmed after the birth of James Allen Caine would not deflect him from believing sincerely that a woman can immediately bounce back from giving birth and go and cook and clean and all the other crap that he assigns to the women of the world as their duty.
