In today's strip, John and Mike don't have it in them to give Elly the encouragement she needs so she has to provide it herself.

(Strip Number 4240, Original Publication Date, 6 October 1982)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Elly holding up an issue of the Valley Voice and telling Mike and John "There you are, bottom of Page 4, "Library Corner"....by Elly Patterson."

Panel 2: John saunters off and says "Nice, Honey"; Mike mutters "That's good, Mom" before resuming watching over Lizzie.

Panel 3: Elly stands there looking mildly baffled and somewhat disappointed by their lack of real enthusiasm.

Panel 4: Not for long, though; this is because she tells herself that she's sensational.

Summary: We're once again reminded of something that we cannot escape; that inevitability is that Elly is right to say that she's not appreciated. While her litany of boredom and frustration is hard to listen to, she does have a point; after all, the only time they do notice her is when she doesn't do something.
