Some people insisted that the song was about smoking pot.
Then there was "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," with the song, "Candyman." It was a song about a candy manufacturer.
Some people insisted that the song was about drugs.
Now there's the song, "Hallelujah," written by Leonard Cohen, who is a Jew who follows a different religion, Buddhism. It was in the movie "Shrek," but only one verse. The other verses are, well, erotic. Or not; your mileage may vary.
Some 8 year old girl with an incredible voice did a cover of the song, singing all the verses, and now some people think that it's a Christian anthem, because she is a Christian, her parents are Christian, and these people think that they heard her sing, "I know that there's a God above," and they heard something about King David and Samson, while ignoring the parts about tying a man to a kitchen chair and so forth.
One of the people is a friend of mine who is probably very, very annoyed with me, and now probably the verb should be "was."
Anyway, just a lesson on how far some people will reach-- Mike is a great dad. Elizabeth and Anthony love each other. Elly is just so wonderful... And I have relatives who are ticked at me that I can't see how good and wonderful they all are.
Well, I'm just preaching to the choir here. Nothin' more to say.
