FBorFW Newsletter for October 2011

For those of you who like self-congratulatory nonsense, here's October's newsletter:

It's October!
Not only is it Farley Month (read on for more) but Halloween is coming! Also, Happy Thanksgiving to our fellow Canadians!

Check out our short weekly podcasts! In this one, Lynn was asked to tell us about Charles Schulz.

You can download the rest through iTunes free of charge or watch them on our website. Scott Clark, Ed Regan (camera) and Lynn finished off this series of podcasts with a studio tour and some insights into the way the strips were written, drawn and researched. They take a look through the props Lynn uses and the photos she took. They then wrapped up the series and talked about the next project...to be announced.

October is Fundraise for Farley Month at the Farley Foundation. We're contributing by sending the Foundation $3 for every Farley book sold in our shop this month. This includes Remembering Farley, Farley Follows His Nose, Farley and the Lost Bone, and the Lost Bone / Farley Plush set. For the first 100 books ordered through this promotion, we'll include a signed FBorFW print and a temporary tattoo featuring Farl.

In September, Lynn and Steph went to the Montreal ComicCon. Lynn was a guest of "ToonBoom", a company that develops and sells professional animation software. Her job was to do a couple of stage performances - a chalk talk and fast "lecture" on character development. The Con was full of very interesting people, from celebs to costumed comics fans, and there are plenty of photos here on our News Bites page. This month's studio photo shows Lynn with Mike, a longtime fan who asked Lynn to autograph a FBorFW clipping that his Mom had held onto for 30 years. He framed the clipping for her birthday and she was so happy she cried. Aww!

On Labour Day weekend, Lynn attended the annual Nipissing First Nation Pow-Wow and took some great photos. Check them out here, with a quick blog entry about some of the people she met.

Our Halloween games and e-greets will be appearing on our site this month! We know you like 'em, so keep an eye out!

We're finished building our expanded character pages! We made some changes and updates to all the pages this month and have also completed the pets' page. Tell us what you think!

Lynn's older collection books are back in print! If you're trying to finish your collection and want signed copies from our shop, we've now got copies of all of them (except for the rare or unusual ones like More Than a Month of Sundays - if you're looking for those, try your local independent bookstore). Check the Steals and Deals section of this newsletter for a discount coupon.

Have you joined us on Facebook yet? We have a trivia contest once a week - "like" our page for a chance to win.

New Bike Entertainment Inc. has purchased the rights to the animated FBorFW series that originally ran on Canada's Teletoon network and is presently running on Teletoon Retro. For that reason, we've had to remove the animated episodes from our site and our YouTube channel but this means the show may be distributed more widely to different TV networks in the future!

Our 2012 wall calendars are now available! We know it's early, but the print runs are really small and we wanted to make sure we ordered enough for everyone! Get yours now, before our supplies run out.

We keep getting asked "How do I get FBorFW by email?" Universal Uclick offers two types of accounts on GoComics.com - paid (Genius) and free - and both allow you to get comics by email. Sign up for your free account here. You can also learn more about the difference between services and upgrade to Genius level if you wish.

Who is your least favourite character?

Tell us whom you'd choose and why and we'll choose one winner to receive a surprise FBorFW gift.

Next month: a different challenge and a different prize! Thanks for joining in!

- Notes:

Lynn is obviously trolling for letters from people who hate Mira and Therese for getting in Elly's way and April for killing Farley. Let's send her letters about how John is a stupid jerk who, when faced with evidence that he is unfair, unfeeling or unkind, says nonsense like "Chee, April sure is spoiled" or "Chee, it's the hormones making Elly feel bad and not her feeling overwhelmed and underappreciated" because he's too big a dick to say "Chee, maybe I am a jackass."
