Anne's refusal to panic so panics Steve that he says something silly.

(Strip Number 4227, Original Publication Date, 21 September 1982)

Panel 1: We find ourselves in the Pattersons' driveway; Anne answers a question Elly asked about how she's feeling by saying "Oh, pretty good; the contractions are strong....about five minutes apart, I guess."

Panel 2: We zoom out a bit so we can see Steve looking like he's about to void where prohibited out of sheer pants-wetting terror; what inspires this horror is the baffling-to-him way Anne casually says "Let's see,,,everything is in Christopher's bag. Here's a key to the house if you need more clothes."

Panel 3: She's just about to tell Elly something else when Steve looks over and says "Anne!! LET'S GO!!"

Panel 4: As he speeds off, he tells her that if she isn't going to have this baby, he will.

Summary: It's nice that he's concerned for her well-being and all but since this is based on Rod's being a first-time father, his tendency to panic isn't all that entertaining. Anne and Lynn have done this before at this point and probably know when to panic and we're not at that stage yet.
