In today's strip, Elly learns that the Valley Voice doesn't have much in the way of a staff.
(Strip Number 4222, Original Publication Date, 14 September 1982)
Panel 1: Having explained that what the Valley Voice needs most is readers, Mrs Walsh introduces Elly to her future co-workers.
Panel 2: A man named Les is the photographer and does the paper's layout and a woman named Karen is the reporter, sales rep and bookkeeper.
Panel 3: A second woman named Jess handles ads and circulation; having noticed someone's absence, she asks where the typing pool is.
Panel 4: Jess explains that the woman is sick.
Summary: All in all, this looks like a slice-of-life look at an advertiser-supported community newspaper; the reason it makes sense is because Lynn actually lived this and was still able to remember her vague unease at how small things were.
