(Strip Number 4220, Original Publication Date, 11 September 1982)
Panel 1: We find Elly in a phone booth asking her future boss Mrs Walsh if the Valley Voice is on Bryce Street East or Bryce Street West.
Panel 2: She then tells her that she's been the full length of Bryce Street and can't seem to find her building.
Panel 3: Said 'building' turns out to be the rear of 2107 and has the previous day's front page taped to the window.
Panel 4: Having finally realized that she's dealing with a shoe-string operation, Elly thought-bubbles "Oh, well; I always wanted to start small."
Summary: Remember all those times I said that Mrs Walsh was trying to tell Elly that she'd like to pay her but couldn't afford to? This is one of the reasons why I said it; simply put, we're dealing with a start-up. It took them years to get enough subscribers to afford their own building with a sign and everything so all Elly needed to do to get a paying job is go back to them after she got fired from the library.
