Today's strip not only has Mike miss the point of John's idiotic lecture, it's also the strip Lynn is thinking about when she makes her flippant remark about deliberately freezing the children's ages.

(Strip Number 4216, Original Publication Date, 6 September 1982)

Panel 1: We pick up where we left off Saturday as John tells Mike that it's up to him to do all his homework pages and do them well; a harmless enough statement because it's the truth.

Panel 2: He then sets himself up to get a stupid comment in return by trying to get Mike to see too big a picture when he says that it's more than just homework, it's preparing him for the responsible life of an adult.

Panel 3: Mike says "It is??"

Panel 4: He then declares that he'll remain seven forever.

Summary: This is because John and Elly aren't very good salesmen for adulthood because they don't seem to laugh or smile or know how to enjoy themselves; this is what they get for their fearfully hiding their sense of humor from their children.
