Today's strip, in which the visit to Vancouver arc is introduced, features what's probably going to be an ironic comment about gridlock. Also, it's a reminder that John hates dentistry and is only in it for the money.

(Strip Number 288, Original Publication Date, 21 July 1982)

Panel 1: As John leaves the office for the evening, Jean wishes him a good holiday; he returns the favor with a cheery "You too, Jean."

Panel 2: He more or less dances a jig as he walks to his car and says "That's it! I don't have to think about dentistry for two weeks."

Panel 3: As he grips his steering wheel, he thought-bubbles "Yessir!" while listening to the honking of the other hovervehicles.

Panel 4: We then zoom out to a scene of bumper-to-bumper traffic as he tells himself that it's great to be free.

Summary: What we're probably going to be told is that it's not great to be stuck in traffic for hours on end because everyone else has to get home too. Also, we're going to probably get a passive-aggressive little whinge about how silly Rod was to want to work when Mommy could take care of him.
