Panel 1: We begin the week with a panicky Phil thought-bubbling "
Panel 2: As he roots through the trash, he reminds us that he can't survive another minute without a cigarette.
Panel 3: He then screams to himself because Elly's cleaned out all the ashtrays.
Panel 4: His yelling "A butt! a butt! My kingdom for a butt!!" has attracted the angry attention of his unsympathetic older sister.
Summary: This, of course, is owing to the fact that neither she nor Lynn really seem to appreciate how difficult it is for people to quit smoking; granted, I never picked up the habit but I do know how difficult it was for my dad to finally stop smoking like he wanted to for years and years. The reason he finally did is much the same as Phil's: a chest X-ray filled with little arrows. That being said, I really don't anticipate someone with Lynn's inability to feel empathy for the struggles of another to understand or sympathize with someone who's more or less an addict trying to break a habit.
