Panel 1: We start off with John in bed; as Elly, who's standing on the other side of the bedroom door. looks in on him to make sure he hasn't been waiting up all night for her like her dad did, he thought-bubbles "Good, she's home. I sure missed her."
Panel 2: He then thought-bubbles that although she's fairly late, he's not going to tell her he's upset, he's going to tell her he missed her.
Panel 3: As she climbs into bed, he thought-bubbles that yes, he'll say he missed her and worried a bit; he's going to wait until she gets comfortable....
Panel 4: His yelling "Get your freezing cold feet off my back!!!" tells me that his train of thought has been derailed a tad.
Summary: This is a relatively benign outing; not only is John trying to be a guy about his worries, we have a mildly funny joke about how it is that Elly's feet tend to get cold. A few years later, he chuckles at her mildly for wearing socks to bed only to remember that her feet are like ice blocks.
