We take a break from Elly complaining about Phil being an evil single man so that we can watch her be envious of Annie. Expect a Lynnsight about how Lynn was jealous of the attention new mothers were getting.

(Strip Number 4164, Original Publication Date, 3 May 1982)

Panel 1: We begin the week at the Nichols house; Elly, having come over for coffee and gossip about Connie, admires the baby clothes she sees.

Panel 2: As she smiles and looks at the baby clothes Annie and Steve bought, Elly admits to being fairly jealous.

Panel 3: She then sets up the punchline by telling Annie that she wishes she were in her shoes.

Panel 4: Since Anne's retaining more water than normal, she hands her shoes over to Elly and tells her that they haven't fit for a week.

Summary: Remember how we were pissed at Lynn because she couldn't see that losing weight during pregnancy might worry the expectant mother? Now we're going to be ticked off because, ta-da, she's not going to see that retaining water is not a joke the evil male god she doesn't worship played on women to be evil and male; what it is is an unpleasant, tedious reality that happens no matter how much you'd wish it wouldn't. Another unpleasant reality is that she loves this joke almost as much as she likes to talk about the behavior known as 'rooting'.
