FBorFW Newsletter, May 2011

The May newsletter is up for our viewing displeasure.

It's May! At long last, the ice is off the lakes and we're seeing green sprouting in the lawns and forest around us ..

New monthly contests:
Scroll down to take a look at this month's challenge. We've turfed the trivia questions and are offering new ways for you to win free FBorFW stuff!

Lynn and Jan went to Santa Rosa: On March 27th, Lynn and her friend Jan Eliot (the Stone Soup cartoonist) appeared at the Schulz Museum in California to discuss their work, answer questions, and sign books. Here's Lynn's account of her trip, which included a stop to meet with her friends Robert and Birgit Bateman in B.C.

Our friends at the Farley Foundation have just extended funding for veterinary treatment to pets owned by senior care facilities. Read the press release on our site for more about the Foundation and the great work it does!

Have you seen Lynn's strip notes? For a few months now, Lynn's been writing mini-memoirs underneath each daily strip. They've been getting rave reviews - check 'em out!

The Pet Portrait Contest is Closed! Lynn has chosen the winner of our first pet portrait contest. You can check out all the entries here.

Lynn's friend Al Simmons was in town recently, touring with his inventive musical comedy act. On May 7th, Al will be at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton. From their site: "Juno Award-winner Al Simmons demonstrates the unique science behind his bizarre versions of stringed, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, entrancing young and old alike. Get ready for an outrageously fun afternoon!" Take a look at Al's website here or watch his YouTube videos.

Katie, Kevin and Lynn are working full days to get the next treasury book done for a June deadline (to be published this fall!) Kate has been going through all the family photographs, articles and newspaper clippings and has discovered some interesting stuff. It's fun to see how much Aaron did resemble Michael Patterson when he was 5 years old.

Our podcasts are now available through iTunes! If you have iTunes installed on your computer, you can subscribe to our podcasts and receive each new one automatically when it is added. You can also watch them right on our website.

Have you joined us on Facebook yet? People who "like" our Facebook page get lots of chances to win signed books, and get first notice of new stuff on our site.

We've started making expanded character pages! Explore Michael's life here. Next up is Elly; we're collating a list of her friends and acquaintances and assembling a list of interesting facts about her. These pages take some time to build, but we're hoping to release one new one each month until we've covered all the Pattersons.

Take a look at our online bargain bin for store items that we're offering at big discounts. We've got some rare hardcover copies of The Lives Behind the Lines, and a few lingering copies of our 2011 wall calendar for a dollar each (these are great for scrapbooking and crafts!).

We keep getting asked "How do I get FBorFW by email?" Universal Uclick offers two types of accounts on GoComics.com - paid (Genius) and free - and both allow you to get comics by email. Sign up for your free account here. You can also learn more about the difference between services and upgrade to Genius level if you wish.

Tell us which of Lynn's characters is your favourite and why. Is it Weed? Candace? April?

Tell us and we'll choose one winner to receive a surprise FBorFW gift.

Next month: a different challenge and a different prize! Thanks for joining in!

Use coupon code MAY2011 for 7% off orders over $10 this May!

Something Old, Something New is now available!

Colour Me Well - Lynn's colouring book!

$1 Wall Calendars - while they last!

Check out the bargain bin!

aabawaa - the weather is warm (hooray!)
