In today's strip, we get another reminder that the strip would have made a lot more sense had Lynn stuck to her original bio for Connie; her desperation would make a lot more sense if she were coming from getting divorced from her high school sweetheart.

(Strip Number 4160, Original Publication Date, 21 April 1982)

Panel 1: As our story continues, we find ourselves watching Elly and Connie drinking coffee; Connie reacts to Elly's off-hand comment about Phil's arrival by saying "Phil? Moving Here? I never would have dreamed...."

Panel 2: Since Elly wants to save Connie from herself, she tells her that she doesn't need another crazy relationship.

Panel 3: Given than Connie sees herself as being desperately alone, she asks Elly if she's kidding.

Panel 4: Her comment about needing any sort of relationship at this stage of the game falls on deaf ears.

Summary: This is because Elly really doesn't seem to get how devastated Connie was in the original version of history; we've seen time and again that our bulbous-nosed twit with the ponytail thinks that since she's relieved that Connie is no longer dating someone she disapproves of, Connie should be happy too. It would never occur to her that her friend sees that as a sign that there's something desperately wrong with her.
