Panel 1: We find ourselves at the dinner table watching Mike ask Elly what's in her horrible casserole; that's because it looks like mushrooms.
Panel 2: He says he bets there's mushrooms in there and he HATES mushrooms.
Panel 3: He then responds to off-camera dialog by saying "Huh? No mushrooms? Oh."
Panel 4: He then asks if he still has to eat it.
Summary: Well, if he doesn't, his insane mother will; that's because the crazy idiot puts pile-high helpings of foods she knows her children and husband hate in front of them in an effort to bully them into liking them. The worst of it is that evil, conflict-causing John is secretly on the kids' side on this one.
ETA: Given that I'm staring down the barrel of a nor-easter today, this banner seems somewhat cruel.
