In today's strip, Elly betrays her inability to cope with life's demands by regarding the natural development of a child's personality as something to fear and regret.

(Strip Number 235, Original Publication Date, 24 March 1982)

Panel 1: As the saga continues, we find John and Elly in bed; as he reads the rest of his paper, Elly tells him that Lizzie has become so devious lately and she denies things that Elly knows she's doing. It should be noted that there's a picture on the nightstand. It should also be noted that Lynn would probably call it something stupid.

Panel 2: As Elly grabs the photo, she tells John that Lizzie also cleverly avoids her when she wants to scream and call her an evil little girl who wants to make Mommy unhappy because she hates herconfronts her. Given that Scooby Doo would have been able to find Lizzie in five seconds flat yesterday, 'clever' ain't the word I'd have used.

Panel 3: Elly puts a full stop on being an idiot by whining "Where has our baby gone??"

Summary: The only sane answer is "She aged and became a two-year old while you weren't paying attention, you whining lunatic." It's sort of horrible to realize that horses must be owned because Elly cannot and will not keep up with the normal development of her children's personalities. Then again, this is an idiot who praises Annie for something that's got her scared out of her mind so we can't expect anything better.
