In today's strip, we find ourselves wondering if Elly will end up getting a phone call from Cathy Guisewite demanding her punchline back.
(Strip Number 4132, Original Publication Date, 24 February 1982)
Panel 1: We start things off with Elly sitting on her bed thought-bubbling "Fat, fat, fat, fat, fat, fat!!" This tells us that she took Mike's words too seriously.
Panel 2: Her next move is to narrow her eyes in rage and thought-bubble that even though the jeans she's about to wear are too tight, she's going to do so anyway.
Panel 3: She gasps for air and thought-bubbles that she can get them done up if she lies down.
Panel 4: Getting back up, on the other hand, is another question.
Summary: Like I said, this is a slightly-repurposed Cathy; it's also a reminder that the two women and their creations share a distorted self-image and take themselves far too seriously.
