John's angry over-reaction to all the stuff Mike has leads Elly to say something mildly hypocritical.

(Strip Number 4128, Original Publication Date, 18 February 1982)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching John looking at Mike and Lizzie's toys and telling us that he can't believe all the toys they have.

Panel 2: His silhouette exclaims that kids today have so much, it borders on decadence.

Panel 3: He then tells Elly that they never had so much stuff when they were kids.

Panel 4: Her reaction is to surmise that it's why they're buying it now.

Summary: John does have half a point; what he's trying to say in his own bass-ackwards way is that less can be more. The problem is that it looks as if he's just pissed because Santa wasn't as generous when he was a kid.
