Today's strip, which is a lead-in to the super-important "Elly buys a butt-ugly carving" arc, is a reminder that it's no wonder that she never thinks that she went on a honeymoon. That's because he thinks that vacations are for relaxing while she wants to go-go-go SHOPPING!

(Strip Number 218, Original Publication Date, 18 January 1982)

Panel 1: We start things off with Elly asking John, who's reading a book as he sits on a lounge chair and drinks his mixed drink, if he's just going to sit and read all day.

Panel 2: I hope it's not just me who thinks that her voice is getting more strident and desperate-sounding as she points out that there's an island to explore and shops to see.

Panel 3: She then says "Don't tell me that you're going to spend the whole two weeks lying on the beach!!"

Panel 4: She finishes her tirade by bellowing "IS THIS YOUR IDEA OF A VACATION?!"

Summary: This is just begging for a Panel 5 in which he says "I wasn't unaware that women weren't allowed to go unescorted down here. You learn something new every day." or some such thing. The idea that he HAS to go shopping for ugly souvenirs with her is too chauvisistic even for him.
