Panel 1: Elly's response to being told that Mrs Hardacre has no sense of human is to phone her; as John looks on, she introduces herself as Mike Patterson's mother and asks if the two of them could meet and have a talk about him.
Panel 2: Having been told that tomorrow evening is the soonest she can do so, Elly tells Mrs H that's fine and says that she'll be there.
Panel 3: Since she either fears the worst about what she'll be told or is simply intimidated by authority figures, she grabs onto John's shirt and half-yells "Come with me?"
Summary: We know that Mrs Hardacre simply wants Mike to settle down and focus on his school work instead of being a class clown; that way, his life will be less chaotic and stupid. We also know that she probably thinks that she's dealing with a sane person who doesn't regard the rather ordinary small boy who thinks he's too smart for school as an unstoppable engine of destruction; the notion that she's going to tell Michael's mother that her son is a budding Pol Pot is not one that would occur to her. She expects to hear "Michael would do much better if he would simply focus" repeated back to her in his mother's voice.
