We begin the Christmas play arc today with Mrs Hardacre contending with Mike Patterson's weak bladder; when one recalls that she'll also be dealing with his low boredom threshold, persecution complex and inability to see that someone that's angry at him doesn't hate him, this is the least of her worries.

(Strip Number 203, Original Publication Date, 7 December 1981)

Panel 1: We start things off with Mrs Hardacre getting her charges through a dress rehearsal for a school Christmas play; she does this by clapping her hands as if she's training a sheepdog and telling Lawrence, Deanna and Darryl that she wants the elves on this side.

Panel 2: As she looks at the cast list and as said cast gets into costume, she asks "Reindeer? Do we have all eight reindeer? And Santa? Where's Michael?"

Panel 3: She then looks down the hallway to see the Santa costume on the floor; given that the trail leads to the boys' washroom, we can safely guess as to what happened to Mike,

Summary: It's just another ordinary day in the life of an elementary school teacher; her attempts to impose order on her charges tend to collide with their need to do things like go to the washroom. It's when her attempt to educate him collides with Mike's need to get the attention he doesn't get at home and the ignorance his parents' failure to properly engage him create that dealing with the Patterson boy becomes a trial.
