(Strip Number 7098, Original Publication Date, 25 October 1981)
Panel 1: We start things off looking at a smiling Lizzie who's just heard the phone RINGGG!!!
Panel 2: She grabs onto the handset....
Panel 3: ...says "Hwo?" (That's Lynn-ese for Hewwo)...
Panel 4: ...and smiles when the caller (who, as it turns out, is Grate Grandma Marian) says "Hello, Elizabeth; how are you?"
Panel 5: She answers her own question by saying "Are you fine? I'll bet you're fine!"
Panel 6: Marian then asks Lizzie if she's going outside today and where Michael is.
Panel 7: Lizzie's still smiling and still silent when Marian asks after and tells her to go find Mommy.
Panel 8: Lizzie recoils in horror when Elly, who asks her if that's Grandma on the phone, motions that she wants the phone.
Panel 9: Elly is genuinely baffled when, after saying that Mommy wants the phone and taking it away from her, Lizzie cries.
Panel 10: Her confusion is compounded when Lizzie declares that she not finished talking yet.
Summary: The 'joke' is that Lizzie didn't say anything after 'Hwo?'; the problem, of course, is that, well, Lynn herself is something of a joke, isn't she? She clearly doesn't seem to have understood that Lizzie a) liked to be able to listen to her Gran's voice and b) doesn't want to feel left out. That last bit, the bit where Liz feels like a stranger in her own house is a recurring thread in the strip and is a contributor to her loving it being in love with Assthony.
