(Strip Number 4093. Original Publication Date, 11 November 1981)
Panel 1: As she and Elly drink their coffee, Connie boasts that Ted wants Lawrence to play hockey and bought his skates and helmet yesterday.
Panel 2: And as soon as he gets the time, he's going to take him skating.
Panel 3: She then says it's no trouble for Ted 'cause he's always wanted a son.
Panel 4: Connie gives us a heads-up that she'll whine "Poor Me!!!" and prove Elly right about how eeeeeeeeevil Ted is by wistfully pointing out that she wishes he was as eager about being a husband.
Summary: Originally, I'd run my mouth about how Ted was getting cold feet because he didn't want to become the next John; after babsbybend's comment showed up, I'd asked myself how Lynn could have missed the same warning sign I did: the one that says "WARNING! MOLESTER AHEAD!" I'm not saying that he is a short-eyes; what I am saying is that he's been set up to look the part. In any event, using Lawrence as husband-bait means that given Ted's need to play the ridiculous Game he'd have outgrown at Uni had his role model not died mandates that he extricate himself from life with Connie, the future straight gay is in for a world of disappointment that prevents him from warming to Phil.
