We end the week with Lynn trying to prove that John would rather be in the dark about his relationship with Elly; what she does prove is that Elly would rather talk than do almost anything else.

(Strip Number 4085, Original Publication Date, 24 October 1981)

Panel 1: The visual element in today's strip are three panels of pitch blackness; that's because it's really late at night. We start off with John saying "Good Grief!! It's midnight!!"; Elly replies by reminding him that they were just beginning to understand their relationship.

Panel 2: He asks her why they always seem to have these long discussions after they're in bed.

Panel 3: She says that it's the only time they see one another. When one remembers that they cannot actually see one another, one is meant to guffaw before feeling sorry for Elly.

Summary: We are meant, of course, to feel sorry for Elly because Evil, Conflict-Causing John Avoids Her In Order To Not Share His Feelings. The problem, of course, is that not making the time is a two-way street. Also, what's to understand? She wants him to be obedient, silent, to take her seriously, to apologize for acting like a guy and complaining about her lousy cooking, poor housekeeping and inability to do basic arithmetic while he wants an uncomplaining maid/cook who'll stay home, stop bothering him with all her crazy equality talk and keep the kids away from him when he's not in the mood to play with them.

ETA: The Halloween banner features pre-stroke Chinnuts and Iris dressed as punk rockers.
