(Strip Number 7097, Original Publication Date, 4 October 1981)
Panel 1: We start out with Mike yelling a Muppet-mouthed yell of "Cut it out, Elizabeth!!!" because Lizzie is sticking her tongue out at him.
Panel 2: He says "Okay for you" as he walks off with a Gorey-eyed frown on his face.
Panel 3: His face frozen in the Bug-Eyed Glare of Existential Horror™, Mike tells John that Lizzie stuck his tongue out at him.
Panel 4: John asks if she did and Mike reiterates that she indeed stuck her tongue out at him.
Panel 5: John sticks HIS tongue at Mike and says "Like this?"
Panel 6: Mike, who seems to be able to dish out verbal, emotional and physical abuse non-stop but not take it, yells "DADDY!!!!" because he is not to have people stick their tongues out at him because he is special and they are not.
Panel 7: John tells Mike that this is a desperate situation and thus there's only one way to handle it.
Panel 8: He demonstrates an even goofier face than Lizzie made and tells Mike to give her one of these.
Panel 9: As Mike rolls his eyes in disgust because John isn't taking his concerns seriously by offering to horsewhip Lizzie for daring to stick her tongue at his magnificent self, John tells him the next time he needs advice, Mike knows where he is.
Summary: It might look as if John isn't taking Mike's concerns seriously here but what I see is a man who doesn't want to pummel his daughter because his son is a thin-skinned jerk who can dish it out but can't take it. Lynn's notes, of course, will be all about how her parents never cared enough to throttle Alan for doing unto her as she did unto him.
