(Strip Number 170, Original Publication Date, 14 September 1981)
Panel 1: We start off with John reading his paper of an evening; he's pleasantly surprised when Elly asks him if he'd like a cup of coffee.
Panel 2: He then murmurs "Hmmmm" in agreement to her asking him if he's feeling comfy as she massages his shoulders.
Panel 3: Having suddenly realized that she's only doing this because she needs a favor, he looks at her with a certain measure of suspicion; her response is to have the Bug-Eyed Smile of The Jig Is Up.
Panel 4: She then asks him if he'd help her balance her checkbook.
Summary: It sort of reeks that we have to be reminded that Elly isn't any better at dealing with her own finances than Lynn herself is; not only is this whole math-anxiety thing one of the more toxic cliches, it's an obvious lead-in to a bunch of letters on CT that go "Hurhurhur!! Camera In My House, Ellie! I love your column because I can't balance my checkbook because math is hard! Signed Barbie Dahl, Crystal Cove, Ca."
