(Strip Number 4053, Original Publication Date, 24 August 1981)
Panel 1: We start off with John about to leave for work when Elly yells "Hold it! You can't go to work in those wrinkled pants!"
Panel 2: John makes the palms-out gesture as he says that wearing them doesn't bother him and that nobody notices anyway.
Panel 3: As she gets ready to iron his trousers, she says "Notice? I notice! What makes you think I don't notice?"
Panel 4: What makes him think that she doesn't notice is that he's been wearing them for a week. This leaves her gobsmacked.
Summary: This does sort of lend credence to his argument. It also should put paid to any notion that Elly is capable of knowing what she's talking about; it seems to me that she's lived her life in a fog wherein things are happening right in front of her that she simply doesn't have the attention span to take in even if she had the brains to make the necessary logical connection. About the only question that it doesn't answer is how John can justify wearing pants that have a week's work of crud on them.
