Mrs Baird's justifiably horrified reaction to John and Elly's stupidity leads to a reminder that Mike can be fairly insensitive when he wants to be.

(Strip Number 165, Original Publication Date, 21 August 1981)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching the end result of Mrs Baird finally seeing what the Pattersons did to the dog she could just as easily given to a responsible, intelligent and caring family; since Mike and Lawrence are incredibly average little boys, they're mildly baffled by the horror-mixed-with-barely-suppressed-rage behind her asking him what his people have done to Farley.

Panel 2: She then attempts to console the poor, brain-damaged animal by asking the poor widdle doggums what Mommy has done and then reminding him that she's cut off the poor baby's hair.

Panel 3: DennisMichael tells JoeyLawrence that Mrs WilsonBaird is weird because instead of children, she had puppies.

Summary: I'd call this a rip-off of "Dennis the Menace" but the Mitchells treat Ruff a lot better than the Pattersons treat Farley. I'd also like to see Elly admit that she was incompetent but all we get is her flinging a coffee cup at John because he says she should be used to talking about the "nothing" Mrs Baird was talking about. Leave it a Patterson to call a legitimate complaint about their own stupid behavior 'nothing'.
