(Strip Number 4043, Original Publication Date, 11 August 1981)
Panel 1: We start the proceedings with John shooing Hairless Farley off of High-Foreheaded, Dot-Eyed, Muppet-Mouthed Mike's bed; because he doesn't know the old adage "Lie down with dogs and you'll get fleas", Mike whines "But, Daddy...."
Panel 2: As Bug-Eyed John walks down the hallway, Mike asks "...why can't I sleep with the dog? You sleep with Mom, don't you?" (thereby reminding us that he's seven years old and thus unaware of how the adult world functions.)
Panel 3: John goes into the bathroom and watches Elly, who's wearing a granny nightie and curlers, slather cold cream over her face.
Panel 4: As he laughs hysterically, she asks him what's so funny.
Summary: It's funny because sleeping with a dog and winding up covered in fleas is regarded as being a slightly better option than being in the presence of Elly Patterson. One wishes that we could continue this sort of thing but starting tomorrow, we have to endure John and Elly being smug and stupid as their friends flail about playing high-school level romantic games with one another.
