Today's strip wraps up the super-important "Elly thinks that Annie is too big for her own britches what with her fancy book-learning instead of using the common sense parenting that created spineless, entitled, immature twits like Mike and Liz" story arc with her dismissively alluding to Anne telling her what to do with her narrow point of view.

(Strip Number 4001, Original Publication Date, 6 May 1981)

Panel 1: We start the proceedings with John watching the box; the presence of the 198Fantasy equivalent of the WWE Divas so rocks his world that he says "Holy Cow, Elly!! There's a couple of women wrestlers on TV."

Panel 2: He sets up the stupid punchline by making himself look like an ignoramus; that's because he asks "Now what do you suppose would make a couple of women want to fight like that?" A sane person would say "For the same reaason male wresters do, idiot: money and fame."

Panel 3: John, however, is not married to a sane person; John is married to a woman who rolls her eyes in disgust and says "One probably told the other she didn't know how to raise her kids."

Summary: What this tells me is that Elly shares Lynn's inability to admit error or accept friendly advimce; my gut tells me that when Anne called Elly on laughing yesterday, Flapandhonk turned into the shrieking fiend who gets enraged when people 'belittle' and 'demean' her by offering her helpful advice. When people make that mistake, she THINKS that they're calling her incompetent, lazy and stupid because deep down she believes herself to be all three things.
