We end the week with Annie telling Elly that Lizzie is sick because Elly never pays attention to what her children eat; she's so busy doing so, she herself fails to do so and gives Elly a chance to say something spiteful that reminds us that she raises her children as if she's at war with them.

(Strip Number 3678, Original Publication Date, 2 May 1981)

Panel 1: As today's strip begins, we find Anne putting away her groceries; as she does so, she tells Elly, who's over for the afternoon cuppa coffee, that Lizzie gets sick because she doesn't feed her the right foods. Elly reacts to this understatement by looking as if she got smacked in the back of the head.

Panel 2: Annie goes on to tell an enraged Elly that Christopher doesn't eat anything unless she knows exactly where it came from and exactly what's in it.

Panel 3: The pissing match one would expect to see when Elly's way of doing things is questioned is interrupted by Mike rushing in and explaining that Christopher and Lizzie are eating dirt.

Panel 4: Elly plays the innocent as she whines "But Anne; it's organic" to her mortified neighbor.

Summary: This, of course, is a lead-in to the next arc in which Elly gets all huffy because Anne tells her that she's something of a failure as a mother; this, of course, is an adaptation of Lynn's real life where her parenting skills were questioned. Rather than admit that she needs help, Lynn takes a creamy dump all over the heretical notion that children aren't the enemy.

ETA: The new month, of course, means a new banner.
