We're now back in gag-a-day territory for a while; the thrust of today's strip is that Elly can secretly relate to not wanting to waste her life doing the busywork she doesn't realize she doesn't have to do.

(Strip Number 3992, Original Publication Date, 21 April 1981)

Panel 1 As our story begins, we find Mike on the couch staring out the picture window as it rains; he reminds us that it's cold an' it's raining and he's got nothing to do.

Panel 2 Elly comes in and tells him that he could tidy his room, brush the dog, straighten the boots...

Panel 3 He whines that he doesn't want to do dumb ol'chores; he wants to do something fun.

Panel 4 Elly sits there with her face frozen in the Bug-Eyed Glare of Existential Horror™ and thought-bubbles that she knows the feeling.

Summary The problem, of course, is that Elly doesn't know what's fun or how to enjoy herself. As a matter of fact, she fears enjoying herself because it would mean that she's reconciled herself to suffering the indignity of having a perfect life.
