I freaking hate being right.
Panel 1: We start off with Connie hugging Lawrence with such force that his tongue sticks out and saying "Oh, Lawrence; I'm so sorry I was away when you were hurt." (Translation: I'm so sorry I didn't get a man.)
Panel 2: She sets up the punchline by telling him that he must think she's pretty awful. (Translation: please don't make me feel bad.)
Panel 3: Since he's a victim of the same sort of parentification that seems to have driven a wedge between Lynn and Aaron, he tells her that she's awfully pretty. This means that he does what's expected of him in a foolish attempt to get this idiot to feel for other people.
Panel 4: He then thought-bubbles that some adults need a lot of understanding.
Summary: He has that backwards, of course; he should say that he doesn't resent her because he cannot understand what makes his mother's mind work. What I can't understand is why Da Silva didn't make a bigger stink about custody; he'd be better off in Brazil with people who might actually give a shit about him even when it's inconvenient.
ETA: Now that Valentine's is over, Lynn has Jim and Iris remind us that it's Heart and Stroke month.
