How silly of me to ignore Lynn's need to believe that all single mothers are needy freaks.
Panel 1: As Elly picks up the toys because her children don't do it properly, she asks DollBoy Mike (who's accompanied by Lawrence and Nonbarnacle Lizzie) where Phil is; Mike says he's at Lawrence's house. Elly says "Oh."
Panel 2: She then reminds us that he's over there a lot; Mike says that Phil told him that he and Connie (that's Mrs Poirier to you, you little jackass) are good friends.
Panel 3: Lawrence tells Mrs Patterson that they're more than good friends; Elly asks him how he knows that.
Panel 4: She's gobsmacked when he tells her that every time Phil comes over to his house, his mom sends him to the Pattermanse.
Summary: This, of course, is because Phil and Connie don't want him catching them having lotsa icky sex. Elly doesn't like the idea of two people having icky sex unless they're married. Also, Connie seems to have raised Lawrence a wee bit better because he refers to adults by their surnames; I don't much care for it when a child calls an adult by his or her first name unless the grown-up in question says it's okay.
