Now that Elly has half-assed her way into finishing the Christmas shopping, it's sort of obvious that we're in for another good long whine about materialism.

Well, I'm close; it's John with his "Nothing-comes-for-free" speech.

Panel 1: Mike asks John, who's pouring himself a cup of coffee, for five bucks; John says sure as long as Mike vacuums his car and wipes the windows.

Panel 2: Mike then asks for three bucks; John then says he can smply vacuum the car.

Panel 3: When Mike asks for a dollar, John tells him he isn't simply going to give him money; he has to earn his keep. Mike, realizing that his dad is cheap, says Oh.

Panel 4: As he tries to figure out how he's gonna pay for his Christmas gift now, Elly says "A penny for your thoughts."

Panel 5: She's gobsmacked by Mike's telling her to make that a buck.

Summary: I know that at some point, Mike has to start paying his own way but six seems kind of early to me. Then again, I'm not an idiotic skinflint who wants other people to go without so I can buy toys for myself.
