Now that we've started the Creative Writing Class, I fully expect Lynn to switch focus to some other useless story line. After all, we haven't been hit over the head with how evil Mira Sobinski is for at least a month so we're due to be told that ambition is bad again.

It looks as if we're in for a theme week as we celebrate a Very Patterson Halloween.

Panel 1: We start off with Michael noisiliy objecting to Elly's plan to have him wear a home-made costume for Halloween; as she rummages through a box for something suitable, he yells "I don't WANT a homemade Halloween costume! I want one from the STORE!!"

Panel 2: As she starts to cut down one of John's uglier shirts, he yells "NO!! I want one from the STORE!! Lawrence is gettin' one from the store! Why can't I?!" Her reaction to this is the Scrunched-UP Frown of Irritation.

Panel 3: Lawrence asks Mike, who's wiping his runny nose on his sleeve, what he's going as so he can explain what he's supposed to be to the children who laugh at him for wearing a home made costume.

Panel 4: Elly, whose resolve to save money will fade away if he makes enough noise, says "A monster." Lawrence and Lizzie laugh while Mike is all gobsmacked.

Summary: Given Elly's predilection for not understanding the world around her, she doesn't have the appropriate speech ready to defend her need to not shell out dough for a costume she could just as easily make for free. About all she has in the tank is "Because I said no" instead of the more useful "If they jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?" Also, it seems to me that Lawrence is more of a frenemy than a real friend; a real pal wouldn't have more or less kicked over an antheap to watch the carnage.
