The horribly ill-timed and amazingly insenstive anachronisms just keep on coming this week; that's because we wrap this arc up with the "You-can't-expect-me-to-spend-my-life-baking-cookies-and-picking-up-socks-My-Mom-did" show. One is left to wonder why Rod endured this as long as he did.

Panel 1: Elly hugs a smiling John and says "Honey, I've been thinking...."
Panel 2: "now that I have more time, what would you say to my getting a part-time job?" Given that his face is frozen in the Bug-Eyed Glare of Existential Horror, I'd say that he doesn't think much of the idea.
Panel 3: She gets a bit testy and says "Come on! I can't spend the rest of my life baking cookies and picking up socks!"
Panel 4: John whines "My mother did!"

Summary: As I said yesterday, this whole thing is meant to punish Rod for objecting to John's dickishness, selfishness and stupidity. clio_1 is right to assume that we'd learn as much (if not more) about Rod if we were to read Apartment 3-G.
