Now that Annie has removed one obstacle to Elly getting a job, what remains is to conquer the others: a recalcitrant husband who thinks that the slightest deviation from the picture of the perfect family inside his head means that he has no HOOOOOOME and her inability to find a job suited to her tastes, whatever they may be because she forgot what they are.

We see her contending with the second obstacle in today's reprint.

Panel 1: We start out with Elly's face frozen in the Bug-Eyed Glare of Existential Horror as she reads the classified ads; she thought-bubbles that she either has too much education for the jobs she sees listed or she doesn't have enough.

Panel 2: She notes that if she did decide to work, she could always be a clerk or waitress.

Panel 3: She then yells that she really wants a challenging career in her field of interest.

Panel 4: She thought-babbles with head in hands 'If I can remember what that is.'

Summary: Elly thinks that she cannot remember what that field is because being near children and doing endless loads of laundry has destroyed her mind and turned her into an infant; in reality, she doesn't have a clue what that is because she doesn't have the drive to stick to anything long enough to develop one.
