Maybe later in the week; right now, Lynn's got to feed the zombies something sentimental: a sappy new-ruin.
Panel 1: As Elly helps Lizzie with her jacket, she tells Mike to wait for the two of them; he says that he can go to the bus by himself.
Panel 2: Elly reminds him that she said 'Wait!"; he replies that Lawrence will be there and that the stop is just down the street.
Panel 3: She says that she knows that it's just down the street -- she just wants to come with him; he asks 'What for?'
Panel 4: As she touches the side of the bus with her right hand (the left hand being in use to support Barnacle Lizzie), she smiles, chokes back a tear and thought-bubbles that she hates to miss an opportunity to have a good cry.
Summary: The end result of this will, of course, be a flood of letters to Coffee Talk that sound like "Oh, Lynne! I loved your column that had Ellie cry when Micheal got on the school bus; you sure showed those mean haters who hatefully make me try to think and other bad things that she misses him after all." It also fits Elly's pattern of only realizing that she had a good thing going when that thing vanishes; I should think that the Elly of the original strip is sitting in the Tiny Train House mourning all the lost opportunties she had to enjoy April's childhood.
