Today's strip will, of course, have John try to apologize for yesterday's insensitive remark by saying something even more insensitive and demeaning. As I said yesterday, we men should wear protection as Lynn is kneeing her ex in the groin by proxy again; as always, she does so with sufficient force to make every man in North America to double over in pain.
What makes the nutshot worse is how dated it is.
Panel 1: John says "Elly, you are far too sensitive"; what he means is that she still has some self-respect left. Her looking as if she should apologize to him for not being ready to drop everything at his whim disproves that.
Panel 2: He goes on to whine that every time he demonstrates his churlish lack of respect for her or what she does, she reacts in the negative manner people are supposed to.
Panel 3: He further dates himself by stating that contrary to what people might think, he isn't a male chauvinist pig.
Panel 4: He proves himself wrong by saying that he simply brings home the bacon.
Summary: Way to remind her that she gets paid an allowance like a child, you jackass. Also, way to defend yourself against something in a way that proves the other person right.
ETA: The new month shows us that poor downtrodden Elly is doomed to deal with a picky-faced Martian princess after all.
