For Better or For Worse Newsletter

July 2009

=================== Greetings from the Team: ===================

Hello folks! July is here. You might remember that, last month, we mentioned June being known as Strawberry Moon to the First Nations people in our area. July is Raspberry Moon, the month where - you guessed it - the raspberries ripen. There's a legendary berry patch behind Lynn's studio, and every July her staff members take an afternoon break, grab a very large container, and venture forth into the berry patch. If you crouch down low to the ground, it's astounding how many berries are there to be picked (and later eaten with ice cream). You just have to look both ways for bears before you begin. They're partial to raspberries too, and there have been quite a few bear sightings in Corbeil of late.

Our Farley-themed children's book is selling well! This book was written by Lynn and her sister-in-law, Beth Cruikshank, whom many of you will know as Aunt Bev from FBoRFW. Farley Follows His Nose has been specially endorsed by the Girl Guides of Canada. You can find your signed copy here in our shop: Get yours now; this is a terrific book and not just for kids!

We're now on Twitter with 130 followers and climbing! Follow "fborfw" : - we tweet whenever there's news or a little tidbit of information that needs to be sent out in a timely manner.

Our stuffed Farley dogs are in the works - we'll have some photos to post soon. Thanks for your patience! We can't wait to make him available.

We've been working on a bunch of new egreets, featuring favourite strips related to birthdays, weddings, graduation etc. Send a strip to a friend or loved one!

If you're a Facebook user, you can join the unofficial For Better or For Worse group and talk to like-minded readers:

Join our brand-new official Facebook page:

We just created this page and we're already up to more than 270 fans - come join a big group of likeminded people and discuss the strip!

You may have noticed that some of the collection books in our store have been listed as "sold out" for a while now. We've recently found out that Lynn's publisher is planning to move forward with treasury editions of FBorFW strips (like the Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes deluxe box sets), and therefore Lynn's earlier books may no longer be reprinted. If you want to order signed copies of any of Lynn's books from our shop, we'd encourage you to do so as soon as possible because we're not sure when or if we'll have more in stock. You can visit our store here:

Some new games this month: our Bunny Hop Game is proving to be especially popular. It's based on a really entertaining peg-jumping game played by Canadian cottagers on rainy days, using a wooden plank with holes drilled in it and some blunted nails for playing pieces. We like our version better:

Last month, we asked you to name this game - we've emailed everyone who suggested "Bunny Hop" and we'll have prizes in the mail soon!

We also made some printable crossword puzzles, which you can download in PDF form. They're great for amusing the kids (or whichever parent isn't driving) if you're doing any travelling this summer. Try them out here:

The nice folks at Harper Collins, publishers of Farley Follows His Nose, have created some fun summer activities that you can check out here:

Lynn and Kate recently returned from a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. Lynn's blogging about her experience here on our Coffee Talk page:

================== FBorFW website visitor survey: ===================

Thanks to everyone who responded to our survey last month. We've contacted a couple of lucky respondents and will be sending them a small thank-you gift.

This past month we gave 5 lucky winners a limited-edition FBorFW print (from a print run of only 2000). Here are the answers to last month's trivia questions:

2. Who's being pushed on the cover of Pushing 40? John

3. Name one of the places where Lynn has lived. We accepted a couple of different answers for this one!

4. What does Elly's brother Phil do for a living? He is a professional trumpet player.
