Hmmmm....We're headed that way, it would seem. That's because we have a reprint that has Elly actually being almost supportive.
Panel 1: We start off with Elly applying Clairol to Connie's scalp and telling her "Pete's been gone a year now, you have to accept that."
Panel 2: Connie knows that; she goes on to say that when she's alone like she is (Lawrence doesn't count because she can't have handjive with him), it's hard to forget.
Panel 3: She then says that her marriage to Pete was like the agony and the ecstasy.
Panel 4: She then says that she wishes that she could forget the ecstasy.
Summary: The reason she wishes she could forget all the good times is that if she did, then she wouldn't feel bad about being a single mom. Not knowing what she was missing would make her long for it less.
