Today, we have Elly whining to Marian about the mundane.
Panel 1: She's on the phone describing last night to Marian. It was fairly awful because she was up every half-an-hour because of her kids.
Panel 2: First the one kid wanted something and next it was the other; she hardly had a chance to think about herself. (This is, of course, nonsense. The reason their concerns were not really addressed is that Elly did nothing but think about herself and how horrible they were being to poor, ill-used, etc, etc, her.)
Panel 3: She then realizes that Marian went through the same damned thing with her and Phil. (I beg to differ here; it's obvious that Marian wasn't as short-tempered and self-absorbed.)
Panel 4: She then sheepishly asks if they ever thanked her.
ETA: You will notice the same thing howtheduck and jjamele did: she isn't actually thanking Marian. What she's doing is asking if her kids will ever get with the program and grovel for forgiveness for being born.
Summary: She is aware that she used to be an immature pain in the rump but thinks that's all over; too bad that she comes across as an annoying high school student whining about the kids she had to babysit.
