Wow. Mira is so evil, she's actually rewriting history.
Panel 1: Mike goes off to apologize to Deanna for saying she wasn't worth getting beating into a fine paste for. She says it doesn't matter.
Panel 2: She's not going to be around much longer anyway. He asks her what she means by that.
Panel 3: Her daddy got a new job and they're moving to Burlington. He says "Really?" This is because he's not aware that this did not God-damned happen until she was in fourth or fifth grade back the first time around.
Panel 4: Ignorant of the gaping hole her creator left in the strip's continuity, Deanna enthusiastically mentions she'll have a new home, new school, new friends, new everything. Mike asks where that leaves him and she says he'll be an old friend.
Panel 5: This doesn't suit him at all. After all, he's not even 6 so being an old anything throws him for a loop.
Summary: The whirring noise you're hearing is the sound of all the reprints that feature Mike interacting with Deanna in grades one through five going through the shredder. That's because Deanna left town when she was five, Greedo shot first and we've always been at war with Eurasia.
