There are two possibilities that face us today. Either we're in for an extended sequence of how not thinking about getting married messed up Young Elly's life or we're going to make the rounds to another character. Me, I think we're in for more examples of Rod-bashing by proxy.

Well, it's not a flashback. It's about Anthony being a weakling who needs a wife to raise his child for him.

Panel 1: We find Mister Excitement, Lizardbreath and Francoise in the park. She asks to be swung around.

Panel 2: We see him do so.

Panel 3: This gets him so dizzy, he has to sit down. Francie complains that she isn't dizzy yet.

Summary: Children are an intolerable burden who don't realize or care about the damage they inflict on their parents. Also, he needs a Mommy for his child to share the martyrdom. In short, this strip is yet another example of the optimistic and generous worldview that ensured that she and her children would be so close later in life.
